On arrival owner appeared to be sleeping. Knocked at the door for some time, when he came to the door he looked at me like I was in the wrong place, and I felt like I was too. When I said I'm here for the van hire from drive mate, he turned around and grabbed the keys, handed them to me and closed the door. I quickly asked which car I was taking to make sure and he mumbled quietly, 'yes yes the one down there's as the door closed Infront of me. I went to the vehicle and took some photos of the outside and inside. I wasn't aware of any check in and out of process with drive mate at the time of collection. I got in the van and when I turned it on, the car had an orange engine light in the dash. I msged the owner through here and had to repeat myself a few times as he wasn't replying to my msg saying the engine light was on and if it was okay to drive. He eventually answered and said 'just ignore it' which was hard as I was driving alone to the Tablelands with my 4 little kids for Christmas. Before we even left Cairns, the vehicle seemed clunky with the wheels or suspension and was a worry. I pulled over and called the owner, he said to keep driving and ignore the light, which I did. Trying to get up the range we could barely get up to 60kms, there was not much power at all and I was so careful because of the way it was driving and it was raining and wet. It felt like it was going to lose control of steers or the wheel would fall off. We made it to our destination and didn't drive the car until we had to return. However, on return, it was really windy and wet and had people waving us down, saying our wheel was wobbly, then had to stop 3 times as the orange engine light was flickering to red and the van seemed to be overheating. Unfortunately, during Christmas my phone got damaged and was unable to contact drive mate prior to leaving and returning the vehicle, and couldn't have called when we stopped due to no reception. When I returned the Van, I spoke to drive mate and advised about the problems we had, and was told to return the van and speak to the owner. On arrival of returning, the owner came to the window and was hurrying me and insisted on the keys. I quickly stopped doing the stuff for the app return and had to get my kids out of the car. Once they were out, the owner had already locked the car and when I asked to take the required photos on the dash ECT for return he refused and left for work. Unfortunately, being a single mum of 4 kids, I haven't had time to follow up with new years and public holidays, however have been charged an extra $200 plus I haven't received my deposit back. That stupid Van cost me over $1k and so much time and stress with screaming, hot kids on the side of the highway. Absolutely disgusted at this and the lack of communication or understanding from this man. Never again will I go through this company. I don't have $1k sitting around, and the only reason I needed to hire it in the first place was because my car is having similar issues and wanted to avoid being on the side of the road with my kids, I wanted to avoid the extra stress of it all but it only added to it 10 fold and now I don't even have the money I saved for fixing my own car because you took out extra and haven't refunded anything.

I must admit there was “miscommunication” at the start. However, I was happy with the car. Am not sure wether the FUEL gauge is working?? Car was returned. Key left where I was directed to leave it. Thank you Jian. Drive-mate Support are great. They are very patient and helpful. Considering I am not “Savy” with Uploading information! Thank you. Regards at Cecilia Müller
