Hired the Toyota Landcruiser and had issues from the get go. Vehicle wasn't located at the advised pick-up location and couldn't get hold of owner. Had to call Drive Mate directly and was then advised pick up spot. After arriving at the first destination I realised the key wouldn't come out of the ignition. Had to cancel a bunch of plans due to not being able to leave the car in public. Once again owner wouldn't respond. Only one headlight was working majority of the time until I experienced, after turning the high beams on which also didn't work, having the headlights stop working when switched back. After stopping the car and assessing the situation the high beams then started to work and were the only illuminating source. Took me 10mins to get the fuel cap off as it was discovered the fuel entry was bent out of shape. The ute comes with a side lift but don't be fooled, its broken and will take you a bit to get it back up if you are alone. For the price paid I would have expected less headaches and more communication. At least some form of literature advising any issues and how to resolve them. Would be cheaper to go with Northside or Bayswater Car rentals.

Terrible experience. If I could give 0 stars, I would. The car was never at the pick up location. We wasted over two hours with absolutely no response, and in the end we had to rent another car and pay again just to be able to start our holiday. After all of this, there was never any communication, not even an apology. Next time I’d rather pay more money than go through an experience like this again. Not recommended at all, even for the price it’s basically a 50/50 chance the car will actually be there. Absolutely terrible.

Good condition car, easy to operate and very handle for getting Christmas chores done. Down sides:- 1. Pick up and drop off need to be prearranged with host, even then timing not guaranteed. It took me 40mins to finally return the key to the host. A simple keylock box or bluetooth open or lock car solution should be implemented? 2. The navigation panel is in Japanese, with map of Tokyo. And the panel makes a loud tone sound every now and again for no particular reason. Annoying, scared the sh*t out of passengers YES!
